Happy Kurban Ait!

We wishes all our readers a Happy Kurban Ait – also known as Eid al-Adha – and we will tell you how we celebrate this Islamic holiday in Kazakhstan.

Kurban Ait – also called Eid al-Adha – is after the Eid al-Fitr the second islamic holiday celebrated world wide during the year. But Kurban Ait – which means Feast of the Sacrifice is the more important holiday of these two.

The holiday is a remembering day to Ibrahim (Abraham) who wanted to sacrifice his son Ismael as an act of obedience to Gods words. He went to a mountain and wanted to kill his only son and sacrifice him to God. But God was impressed of Ibrahim and send as mercy a goat to him. So he sacrificed the goat instead of his son.

So Muslim people in Kazakhstan sacrifice a horse, goat or sheep for Allah on this holiday to remember this moment. And then they invite their neighbors and friends to read with them Quran and eating a meal with meat of the sacrificed animal. But they not eating only the meat. They also serving delicious Kazakh traditional meals. And you know the Kazakh hospitality and cuisine is Big.

We wish everyone a Happy Kurban Ait 2020 and Stay healthy!
